Gestational Diabetes

When a client is initially diagnosed with gestational diabetes, she can feel very overwhelmed.  Here are some resources to make it a little less daunting.

Vitalia Albertson with is trained to consult and get you started off on the right foot.  She can be reached through her website and has menus and lots of suggestions to get it under control.

Lily Nichols book, “Real Food for Gestational Diabetes” is very helpful.

Pregnancy and Postpartum TV on YouTube has an entire section devoted to gestational diabetes and it focuses on nutrition and exericse to help keep numbers in control.

Here is a PDF file filled with sample menus, information about how many carbs to consume at each meal, snack ideas, etc. It’s from the above nutritionist with Pregnancy and Postpartum TV.

The Contour Next One or the Contour Next EZ are considered the most accurate glucose meters on the market.  Just make sure you get the correct test strips to go with the one you purchase. They are available at any pharmacy.

Morica Spicer with Precious Peeks: Cash pay but excellent prices.  Clients can schedule on her website. She will do dating ultrasound, anatomy scan, position checks, NST/BPP.

ProCare Ultrasound in Duluth: offering full service for obstetrics plus they have the equipment for varicosities for suspected DVTs, also does NST/BPP. Call to schedule or I can send in a referral.
